Demeter

Daughter of the Titans Cronos and Rhea, Granddaughter to Gaia and to the Romans known as Ceres. Demeter is the Goddess of Earth, Fertility and Agriculture and known as the Corn Goddess. She is quite possibly the oldest deity out of the Greek Gods and Goddesses.

Demeter was raped by Poseidon and later Zeus and was impregnated with Persephone, who was taken from her for the winter months of the year. In her rage Demeter forbade the earth from bringing forth life. Nothing could grow and nothing could be born, only death. Because of this Demeter is also known as the Goddess of Birth and Rebirth.

Lughnasa is a time to honour Demeter. A good symbology for her on your altar would be something with corn or simply a statue of her.
