Brigit

Goddess of Fertility, Hearth and Home, Healing, Inspiration, Fire, Childbirth, Unity, Poetry. She is called by many names and is the most well known Goddess in Irish Mythology. She is also a Triple Goddess ( Maiden, Mother and Crone)

Brigit was born at day break, daughter to Dagda (The Father God). As an infant she was fed milk from the sacred cow of the underworld. As she is also a Sun Goddess as she grew older her gifts from the energy of the sun would produce flowers wherever she walked.

Brigit's son died in a battle between her family and her husbands family. She was said to have developed the practice of Keening as a result of his death. As her sadness rolled across the land with this it forged peace and unity between the two sides and to all Celts.

She is honoured throughout Imbolc by many ways. Some popular ways are Candle crafting, milk baths, wreath making, Cauldron fires, Poetry, and creating a doll in her honour.
